Weight: 300-400 lbs
Hair Colour: Brown
Eye Colour: Blue
Skin Colour: Fair

Current Rank: Nobody.
Affiliation: Nobody.
Home World: Zeltros.

History: There isn't too much history to tell with Todd. He was created by an engineer whom he--commonly enough for droids in his situation--views as his father. His father was responsible for his instruction, but even though Todd had access to a great deal of information about people, his father was the only one he actually knew. It seemed normal enough, though. If it wasn't normal, his father would have changed things until everything was. His father would make it right.

One night Todd was deactivated for some routine repairs to his dermal covering, and was awakened by the lab's motion sensor alarm. Someone was there. Assuming it was his father--since there was no one else it could possibly be, right?--Todd ran to see him and ask what was wrong. All of the lights were off. His skin told him it was cold. There was dust in his hair. But his father would know why, and he would simply have to ask and everything would be made clear. His father was good for that.

Todd found himself face to face with a Zeltron child. It was so small. Had he ever been so small? He supposed not. This was a born person, made very very tiny but growing all on its own like a plant from seed. What an amazing little creature. It was staring at him, starting at the alarms. Todd closed his eyes, asked the system if it would please calm down. The din in the air hushed. "I'm sorry," Todd said. "For the noise. It doesn't mean to frighten anyone. It just wanted to tell me you were here. I think it was scared that you were bad." He smiled. "But it's okay. I don't think you're bad."

The child stayed a while, but it soon became clear that Todd was not well-equipped to care for it. Him. His name was Galvin, and he lived nearby. He had to go home.

Todd asked the city's database where Galvin lived, and sure enough there was a record of him. So Todd took him home. Galvin's parents seemed so happy to see the child that Todd knew he had done rightly. But they didn't seem to like Todd. They seemed afraid of him. They asked if he'd hurt the boy, and Todd told them no. They didn't believe him at first, but he was so visibly upset at the accusation that they realized the young man was harmless. They asked if Todd had anywhere to go.

Then he realized they were going to make him go. He was seized with a sudden paralyzing terror that he'd be left alone again, that he'd wake up covered in dust with his father gone and everything quiet and dark and no one would ever know what had--

Then he heard a voice.

It's all right, it said. You're going to be okay. You're not alone. He stopped, his eyes widening in confusion. Don't tell anyone about me. But I'm here.

And that was the day Todd met Amichai, or so the voice called himself. Amichai protected him. Amichai was allowed to do more things than Todd was, and Amichai kept him from being alone. It was someone to talk to, at least, when places were dark and the night was quiet. He perhaps worried a bit much, and didn't always think the best of people, but he had to be there for a reason, right? But Amichai couldn't say why. Amichai couldn't say how he'd gotten there. Todd thought perhaps it had been his father--their father?--who had done it, but then... Todd credited his father for everything. But Amichai couldn't say. And Todd found that--when asked--he couldn't say anything, either.

What had happened?

Personality: Todd is an innocent. That's the simplest way to put it. He was taught not to do anything to anybody that they didn't want him to do, unless he was protecting himself or someone else. Because no one has ever been cruel to him, he assumes that this is a universal code, that all people have these limits on their behavior. To say that he is too trusting is something of an understatement. He is completely trusting, almost immediately. All it takes is a little kindness for Todd to assume he's found a friend, and his fear of being alone does the rest.

And he is afraid of it. Anything can happen when he's alone. And no one would know... perhaps not even him.

Todd's fear of being left behind, left alone, has created an odd quirk in his behavior. He anthropomorphizes most machines and objects, even ones that he knows cannot actually think as clearly or fully as he can. And he doesn't want them to be alone, either. His pockets and home are often full of odds and ends that he found. He picks up credit chips and datapad styluses and fake flowers and articles of clothing left lying about all alone like he had been. He knows that these things cannot really comprehend in fullness the way that he can, or a born person can. But he pities them nonetheless. It's such a sad thing to be alone.

Todd, though? Todd is generally a happy person. Very simple things bring him joy, and he likes to make other people happy as well. He just isn't always sure what the right thing is to do, and occasionally needs to be corrected. If someone told him, for example, that taking other people's things was stealing and was bad, he would stop. Or try to, at least, in the interest of not hurting anybody's feelings by taking things they might love.

His own emotions are the simple and intense emotions of a child, and his mood can shift just as rapidly. He is easily overwhelmed by his own feelings and the feelings of others, but it's impossible for anybody speaking with Todd to overlook that the boy really does mean well.

Typical Attire: A lot of what Todd wears he found, or stole, because it seemed too nice to be left lying about. He doesn't get hot or cold the way born people do, because he doesn't share their metabolic processes. But sweaters are soft, and athletic shoes have a bounce in the bottom that feels fun. As a result, he wears a lot of sweaters and sneakers. No one has attempted to get him to wear anything else, but if a friend told him to change his clothes he would almost certainly wear whatever they recommended.

Important Items: Himself, most would say.

Strengths: Todd knows a great deal about HRDs, because he's the only one around who can do his own maintenance. He carries a datachip with emergency maintenance information should he ever be deactivated among people who don't know how to fix him. But essentially he knows how his own body works, and a bit about "born people" and their physiology--at least in the ways that it differs from his.

He has some computer engineering programming, enough of a framework that it could be patched to give him a more complete skill set should he ever require transportation without anyone around to provide it. Todd would say he "knows how to talk to the ship," but anything that doesn't have a complex computer in it is beyond his ability because it can't be reasoned with. He also cannot convince another machine to go against its programming, and wouldn't try even if he were capable. He's not coercing it, just "talking."

In the Amichai partition is software for hand-to-hand combat, a useful thing for a mechanical person with a metallic endoskeleton. This was not a skill that Todd was aware of until he became aware of Amichai, and it is not a skill he uses often. After all, he does not like being broken. It isn't good to break other people. When would he need to do such a thing? If anything Todd is extremely careful of born people. Even though their bodies have a seemingly-miraculous capacity for self-repair, they are so very fragile, and by comparison Todd is so strong. They're very delicate people and to hurt them is bad, so it takes a lot to get Todd to fight. Far more likely that Amichai will do it, and Amichai is far less considerate.

Weaknesses: Todd cannot heal naturally, nor does bacta have any effect on any part of him below his skin (except, perhaps, to gum up his internal workings should the integrity of his body be breached before submersion).

The difficulty with being a droid is, obviously, the question of free will. When Todd says he's "not supposed to" do something, he means he is incapable of circumventing a block on his behavior that is programmed into the very code that makes him who he is. He can no more deliberately divulge forbidden information than a Human could flap its arms to fly--it's simply not an available option. A skilled questioner could probably ask around the gap and figure out what is being hidden, but Todd would have to stop the line of inquiry should he detect the attempt.

The second weakness is the blank space in his memory. Todd doesn't know what his purpose is--and unbeknownst to him he does indeed have one--and Amichai is "not supposed to" tell him. Todd doesn't know what happened to his father, or if it bears some relation to him or to the secrets he and Amichai must keep from those they meet in their travels. As a result, Todd does not--cannot--actually know what he is capable of. Again, this touches on free will. If he does not know what he can potentially be commanded to do... he can't exactly avoid the situation, can he?

Another problem for Todd is intuition. He can learn facts rapidly, assimilating them into a flawless memory. But integrating this information to the degree that he can make intuitive leaps based upon it is extremely difficult. His martial arts abilities are a good example of this. He could watch warriors sparring for a while and pick up forms perfect enough to demonstrate them, but in a fight he would not be able to discern what to do at what times without a far deeper familiarity than he generally has time to acquire. This is an example that applies to most things in Todd's life, from combat to engineering to social interaction. He knows a lot of things, but stringing them together is taxing for him, and he is far more likely to simply default to his programmed predispositions.
